Local & Unknown: The Midwest pt.1

Local and Unknown is going to be a weekly trek across America showing that local scenes are still alive, and they're not just bedroom producers and lo-fi indie bands, they is so much out there and just because you can't hear it doesn't mean its not there, so what I'm here to do is to push these bands out into the light in our lil' blog.

Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, I'm not going to list them all, but this is an amazing scene people, for those of you who don't know. A lot of loud yelling screaming clashed with clean math instruments. Although this is not the only sound in the scene its a heavy force, which is why I will be posting this blog about them and their music. A lot of these bands aren't on labels and if they are its something pretty small time. So here we go.

The Reptilian-Boy's Life: This is pretty much what I just wrote about a band with good math edge. Not a lot of use of effects or production, just what they sound like is what they sound like. This is one of my favorite bands for the Midwest, just talented math rock with those post hardcore vocals that I heart, so its hard to beat this album, though the band has gone through line up changes, going from a 4 piece to a 3 piece, the message stays the same in later their later releases.

The Exploration-Basement demo: A single person, recording, bassing, guitaring, drum programming, but still, the clean math rock and post-hardcoreish leaks through, and I do believe when this was recorded The Exploration was just 16, though a short lived project mustering just 2 demo releases, they were album to become a full band by the end.

Snowing(RIP)-Fuck Your Emotional Bullshit: Now, if I'm not mistaken this is what emo is really suppose to sound like, just raw power full emotion, and that is what pours out of each and every Snowing song, with those whining yelling vocals and clean but intense guitar work this is one band that I was really sad that they are on the never saw, never will list. Emo rock, this how you do it.

Thus concluding part 1. Part 2 next week.
