UPDATED: Track Review: Gorillaz - "DoYaThing (feat. Andre 3000 and James Murphy)"
Three prominent voices from three prominent groups on hiatus or even retired have come together to make one of the more instantaneous tracks of our young year. Damon Albarn of Gorillaz and Blur, Andre 3000 of Outkast, and James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem holed together for three days to make a track for the new Gorillaz Chuck Taylor's line for Converse. It sounds like selling out, but if this is selling out, more musicians and producers should sell the fuck out. This track is one of the most original songs of our young year, and sounds fresh when compared to the unusually sedate 2012. The loop is catchy and funky, Albarn's distinct rap-singing is more random and awesome than usual (though it's normally awesome if your into that sort of thing), Murphy is funkier than usual, and Andre 3000 is more himself here than anywhere since "Hey Ya!" This 4 1/2 minute radio edit is well worth checking out. In the next few weeks, expect the 12 minute ad-libbed version with Andre 3000 going OFF.
And I'm sitting here, wondering if he could "go off" any more than he does here.
