(HEAVY FRIENDS is a new segment wherein Robby talks about up and coming or otherwise unknown metal bands that he is liking. If you can think of a better title for this segment, let him know in the comments.)
Tidal Crush is a recently formed band hailing from the Faroe Islands, y'know the tiny islands in between Iceland and Norway. They released a three track demo via YouTube and these guys play death metal with a distinctly Scandinavian flavor; death metal with a melodic touch that brings to mind bands of old like At the Gates, Dark Tranquility, and early In Flames. Some might even call them "metalcore", if you'd like to use that word.
While Tidal Crush is definitely in demo mode as of now, I can definitely see big things in the future for these guys. Even with demo-level recording, these guys have a pretty decent sound that if enhanced would give this material a great amount of power. But it's not like they don't already have some guts right now. They come on these three tracks with the same kind of brute force that made the three bands I mentioned above so good, but also know how to tone things down, and bring in some nice dynamics. I feel like with more incubation, we'll see an act with some real staying power.
