VIDEO: Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) - "Niggas in Poorest"

A few weeks back, I posted about a project that Yasiin Bey, the MC formerly known as Mos Def, announced entitled Top 40 Underdog, in which the rapper will use various Top 40 hits as backdrops for some verses of his own. "Niggas in Poorest", a take on Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Niggas in Paris" that entirely flips the lyrical concept of the original, was the first track we heard from the series. Now, we have some visuals to pair up with the song, which include shots of Bey in the studio, lyrics flashing across the screen, and some spliced in found footage. Watch the video below.

TRACK: Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) - "Niggas in Poorest"

Yasiin Bey, the artist formerly known as Mos Def, has announced a new series of freestyles entitled Top 40 Underdog, in which the MC will use an assortment of Top 40 tracks as instrumentals for his own verses. First up in the series is this reworking of Kanye West and Jay-Z's "Niggas in Paris" from last year's Watch the Throne, a socially aware take on some of America's flaws titled "Niggas in Poorest".

TRACK: Black Star - You Already Knew

Black Star, the collaboration between Talib Kweli & Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def), recently reunited and has been actively touring, but they still haven't officially released anything since the classic Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star. Earlier this month, Kweli mentioned that the group is trying to put out a new album sometime next year, but now it looks like we have something to hold us over. The duo has announced a mixtape entitled Black Star Aretha, which is apparently a tribute to soul singer Aretha Franklin. "You Already Knew", produced by Madlib's younger brother Oh No, is the first track to drop. Hear it below, or download it for free from Black Star's website.
