HEAVY FRIENDS: Rotten Sound - Species at War

(Welcome to Heavy Friends, the segment of YPOIW where Robby talks about the latest and greatest in metal, hardcore, and other forms of heavy music. This was previously known as "The Latest in Heavy", but yeah I like this title more, capiche?)

Finland's own grindcore heroes Rotten Sound have been kicking around for a quite a while, and they recently scored a deal with Season of Mist for a new EP and album in 2013. For now, we know that the EP, entitled Species at War, is set to be released on January 18th. These guys have made some of my favorite modern grind, they have a filthy, crusty-as-fuck sound, and they pull that off beautifully in albums like Exit and Murderworks, two of my favorite albums in grindcore. Unfortunately I feel like the direction they've taken in their past couple albums have been more produced than I like my grindcore, but that doesn't mean the band can't jump back and win me over once again. Hopefully that rings true when we get our hands on this piece of music.
