TRACK: Shlohmo - "Later"

Los Angeles producer Shlohmo has been steadily dropping enjoyable releases for the past few years, among which are 2011's excellent Bad Vibes LP and last year's stellar Vacation EP. His next offering is an EP titled Laid Out, which is slated for a release in March. Below, listen to "Later," our first taste of the record.

Like many modern producers, Shlohmo bases his sound primarily in juxtaposing atmospheric samples against busy, pronounced percussion; his ear for melody and attention to detail, however, allow him to transcend many such contemporaries. "Later" is an apt example of that skill. Clocking in at over six minutes, the song builds skittering drums alongside spacious synthesizer sounds, delegating an obscured yet emotionally resonant vocal sample to lead the way. As what is so far the sole representation of the Laid Out EP, it foreshadows what is likely to be another interesting chapter in Shlohmo's impressive discography.

  1. I've been a casual Shlohmo fan for a while but god damn I love this song, it's too addictive.
